Here are some of the most frequent pediatric dental emergencies
Toothaches
Toothaches are one of the most common dental problems in children. They can be caused by cavities, which can lead to an abscess, and other dental issues. If your child is experiencing a toothache, it's important to schedule a visit with us as soon as possible.
Broken or Chipped Teeth
Broken or chipped teeth can be painful and may require dental treatment. If your child's tooth is broken or chipped, rinse the area with warm water and apply a cold compress to reduce swelling. Try to save the tooth fragment that broke off and bring it with you to the appointment. Schedule a dental appointment as soon as possible to assess the trauma and determine if treatment is necessary.
Knocked-Out Teeth
A knocked-out tooth is a dental emergency that requires immediate attention. If a tooth is completely dislodged, gently rinse it with cold water and try to reinsert it into the socket. If this is not possible, place the tooth in a container of milk or saliva and take your child to the dentist immediately.
Object Stuck in the Mouth
If your child has an object stuck in their teeth try to remove it with floss. Do not try to force it out as this could cause further damage. If you are unable to safely remove the object, schedule an appointment with our Lakewood office.
Mouth Sores
Mouth sores can be caused by a variety of factors, including stress, trauma, viruses, or bacteria. If your child has mouth sores, encourage them to drink plenty of fluids and avoid spicy or acidic foods. Have your child rinse with a warm saltwater solution to alleviate the discomfort. If the sores are causing extreme pain, give us a call.
